What are People Counters?

A people counter is a device or system used to count the number of individuals entering, exiting, or passing through a certain area or space. People counters are employed in various environments, including retail stores, public transportation hubs, entertainment venues, libraries, and more.

Video-based people counters use cameras and computer vision algorithms to detect and track individuals within a monitored area. These systems can differentiate between people and other objects, count individuals in real-time, and provide additional insights such as demographic information and movement patterns.

3. Thermal Sensors:

Thermal people counters utilize heat-sensing technology to detect the presence of individuals passing through a monitored area. These sensors are particularly useful in environments with low lighting or where privacy concerns limit the use of cameras.

4. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Tracking:

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-based people counters track the presence of mobile devices carried by individuals within a certain area. By detecting the unique identifiers (MAC addresses) of smartphones and other devices, these systems can estimate foot traffic and visitor counts.

Stereo vision people counters use pairs of cameras to create depth perception and accurately track individuals in three-dimensional space. These systems are capable of counting people even in crowded or complex environments with overlapping trajectories.
